Three things to know
1. It’s okay to not feel okay
You may be used to putting other people before yourself, but you need to recognise your own needs too. However you are feeling, be assured that other guardians in a similar position have felt the same. Please don’t suffer in silence. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
2. It doesn't have to be a crisis to call
Our message is simple – it doesn't have to be a crisis to ask for help. Please contact us early and often and know you will get compassionate support with no judgement. Taking good care of yourself can only benefit the people around you, so make sure that you get the help you need as soon as you can.
3. Speaking to other guardians is easy to do and really helps
Special guardians always say that no one understands them quite like other guardians. They are often reluctant to join a group, but feel relief once they do. You can share practical ideas, make new friends and celebrate success together. There are local and national groups that run in person and online – just find what works for you.
